Following his title win in last years South London Go-Ride Racing League, Will Dennis’s title defence started well with a WIN in Round 1 at Eltham Park yesterday (22/09/2019). Congratulations Will!
Saturday morning club sessions begin again on 7th September. Payment details will be sent out via RiderHQ as usual in a few days time.
Today didn’t go quite as Elsa wanted. She had an unbeaten run to the finals through motos, 1/8ths, quarters and semis and she felt good. The final though didn’t go smoothly as she got shut down on the start hill and then found herself battling for positions. She worked hard all the way round the track to make it back from 7th, or even 8th to 4th.
She knows that W4 is still a good result but she hoped for and wanted more.
I totally understand her disappointment and have and will let her go through her emotions. I did, however, remind her that firstly there are a lot of people leaving without a World plate and secondly, you can probably count on a hand or two the number of people who can say they have had a World plate five years in a row or that can say they have won two E plates and two W plates in the same year.
And she is still smiling.
Race Report : London Bmx Race Series : Round 4
Hello Race fans! Sorry for the delay posting. Was hoping to type this up this afternoon but got stuck afk. But no news is good news and we’ve got great news!
This round was at the Olympic venue Lee Valley Velopark. It’s kinda like Cyclopark but not as good ????
All jokes aside it’s a lovely venue with a velodrome, bmx and mtb circuit all in walking distance of each other. So it is a great place to dip your toe into BMX racing and alongside the regulars we were lucky to have Enzo (and family) join us for a day racing. We all rocked up pretty early at the venue and set up base camp at the top of the 3rd berm. Nice view of most of the track from there but crucially closer to the toilets in the velodrome ????
Racing this round were your Group 3 favourites. Jacob, Harry, Akhyn, Noah and Isabella. From Group 2 “old man racing” decided to spin his wheels (that’s me). And from Group 3 our fav elite riders Ollie and Kana representing H.O.T. Racing too. Last but not least we had a very special guest Megan join the gang as well. Wow what a turn out.
Hackney Bmx club did a great job all day and once warm up and gate practice was completed the racing just flew by. It is a bit of a tricky circuit. The first straight is uphill and a few riders struggled keeping up their momentum, I certainly did. The experience gained in the Novice racing is clearly making a difference however. All our Group 3 racers were able to traverse the circuit and compete really well. Honestly how the little ones made it around is truly impressive. Megan and Enzo blasted away and it was fantastic to have them racing with the team. Ollie and Kana, as always, inspired us all with their speed and skill. Come the finals there were some great results. In fact some riders of the club went 1st in every race. More importantly though everyone seemed to give 100% throughout the day and that’s all anyone can ask. Well that and having a lot of fun, we did that too ????
Thanks to all who attended. To Jay for his words of encouragement to all and to Kana for explaining and showing me how to take the first straight. Set me up for a good lap dude, no crashing this time ????
PS I’ve got no photos coz I was racing, please feel free to share ????
A great day of racing again by Club Cyclopark. The now not-so-Novice group of Akhyn, Noah, Poppy and Isabella took the latest round in their stride. All performed extremely well but racer of the day has to go to Holly racing for the first time! Again inspiring us all with his track speed and super smooth riding was Ollie, flying the flag for H.O.T. Line Racing.
Shout out to David Gardner for the photos. I hadn’t charged my phone on the drive over. Turns out his camera and eye for a shot is better than mine anyway 🙂 .
Next round is July 21st, hoping for some more racers to join us for sure.
Following the recent Club AGM, I’m pleased to announce that there are several new members on the committee. Pippa takes on the role of BMX Parent Rep, Jon takes on the role of Mountain Bike group Parent Rep, and Gary takes on the role of Road group Parent Rep. I’ll try and get photos of all the committee on the website to aid recognition for members.
Tuesday night has seen the return of the adult mountain bike group. Meeting at Jeskyns Community Woodland cafe for a 6.45pm departure should give us enough time to get into Cobham and surrounding areas. Bring lights as we may get back after dark.
Club Chair, Tabitha Rendall with several of the coaches and parents who recently undertook their first aid training, either for the first time or to renew their qualification.
